A colourwork hat for cold winter days. Sonsie is a wonderful Scots word meaning jolly, cheery, and propitious.
Yarn
Kate Davies Designs Ooskit (100% British Wool; 240m / 220yds per 100g skein)
A Choffer: 1 x 100g skein
B Riach: 1 x 100g skein
You’ll be able to make a hat with approx. 50g / 110 yds of each shade.
Needles and notions
Below gauge-size circular needle (40cm / 16in) for rib
Gauge-size circular needle (40cm / 16in) for hat body
Gauge-size needle(s) of your preferred type for working crown shaping
Stitch marker
Tapestry needle
Gauge
23 sts and 29 rounds to 10cm / 4in over stranded colourwork in the round
Use 3.75 mm needle as a starting point for swatching.
Check your gauge, especially if yours tends to tighten when working stranded colourwork.
Sizes
Beanie: to fit head with 51-56cm / 20-22in circumference
Slouch: to fit head with 52-58cm / 20½-23in circumference
Be sure to check your gauge, and block finished hat appropriately.
Pattern notes
This hat is knitted in the round from the bottom up, following a chart, which is read from right to left throughout.
