Sontag Shawl
by Debbie Gau
This Sontag Shawl looks like a shawl from the back, but crosses over in the front and ties in the back like a sontag. The pattern is made with emphasis on measurement instead of number of rows, allowing the individual to adjust it to fit. The Sontag Shawl starts at a point in the back, and is worked up to the neck and then down the front in 2 panels (knitted at the same time) to I-cords for the ties.
Sontags are very popular for use in re-enactments.
