Sonya
“We shall find peace. We shall hear angels. We shall see the sky sparkling with diamonds.” Sonya from Uncle Vanya by Anton Chekhov, 1898.
Sonya is a winter’s shawl named for Chekhov’s famous character, who, finding hope amid despair in the play’s final speech, describes an image of heaven. The shawl features a knit-as-you-go i-cord edging across a central lace panel, with feathery lace spreading out from centre like angel’s wings.
The yarn used for the sample:
Baa Ram Ewe Titus (70% British Wool, 30% British Alpaca, 320 m/ 350 yds per 100g skein) in colourway White Rose, 2 skeins
Onion Silk + Kid Mohair (40% Mulberry Silk, 60% Super Kid Mohair, 240 m/262 yds per 25g ball) in colourway 3014 Douce Blå, 3 balls.
The instructions are written out line by line and is also charted.
I chat about the shawl in the EastLondonKnit Podcast, Episode 62
