Sophie's Mittens
Additional information and the Winter 2011 - 2012 issue of Knitcircus is available now!
My little friend Sophie, an adorable little four year old, loves ruffles and ribbons yet hates when they get in the way of her playtime. Sophie’s Mittens are designed with her in mind. They are a sweet little solution for that special girl in your life who is almost a tomboy but wants to be fancy too. They are a perfect combination of pretty and practical with ruffles and ribbons but not too much to interfere with the hard work of serious play!
I designed Sophie’s Mittens to be knit in a light worsted/DK weight wool yarn. The pattern’s simplicity lends itself nicely to both semi-solid and variegated hand-dyed yarns so they are a great way to show off a special skein. The choice of ribbons can add a touch of pattern or pop of contrast color and are easily swapped out to keep the mittens fresh and interesting. The wrist starts with a small ruffle and then moves along to a ribbed cuff with eyelets for the ribbons to run though. These are tied into small bows that add a bit of interest while helping to keep the mittens secured to little hands!
