Inspiration: Once upon a time, I had a knitterly problem. I wanted needed a project that was portable, easy on the brain, good social knitting, and could show off the beauty of variegated yarns. (I love variegated yarns. I do not love trying to find patterns that work well with them). The solution? Sophisticated Scribbles, a pair of mostly stockinette socks (ankle length or knee length) that have a contrasting squiggle that extends down the leg and over the foot to add some knitterly interest and a sense of fun.

Skills and techniques: knitting in the round, 2-colour knitting, cabling, chart reading, grafting

Yarn:
Socks: 280-350 yds/256-320 m (MC) and 100-150 yds/92-138 m (CC) fingering weight wool or wool-blend sock yarn. Sample sock is knit in Blue Moon Fiber Arts Socks that Rock Mediumweight, 100% superwash merino, 380 yds/348 m/ 150 grams, (shown in my own hand-dyed experimental colourways).

Stockings: 500-650 yds/458-594 m (MC) and 110-160 yds/101-146 m (CC) fingering weight wool or wool-blend sock yarn. Sample is worked in Madelinetosh Pashmina, 75% superwash merino/15% Silk/10% Cashmere, 360 yds/100 grams (shown in Lichen (MC) and Ink (CC).

Construction Details: Socks are knit in the round from cuff down in 2 colors using a short-row heel, and round toe. Toe stitches are grafted together using Kitchener stitch. Pattern contains instructions for both ankle socks and knee-high stockings.
