Sorley is a very light summer shawl perfect for when there’s just that tiny bit of wind that gives you goosebumps.
This narrow shawl doesn’t follow your every day construction. It spreads its wings from a center diamond shape that is worked first. After that stitches are picked up along one side of the center shape at a time to work the shawl’s wings while continuously decreasing stitches towards the tips. Which means there is no endless bind off waiting to finish this shawl.
Sorley combines light and airy textures formed using a beautiful blend of garter stitch, stockinette stitch, slipped stitches and yarn overs.

Use your favorite two colors of fingering weight yarn and be around to see them fall in love with one another while one of them will take the lead in each of the wings.
You’ll only need about 210m/230yds of each color (about half a skein), so this is also a nice project to use some left overs you may have waiting somewhere.

Finished size is about 30 cm x 200 cm / 12 inches x 80 inches, so this is not too big of a project and makes for the perfect summer (or vacation) knit.

Yarn:
Approx. 210 m / 230 yards of fingering weight yarn for each color A and color B. (420m/460yards in total)
Sample is worked in Manos Del Uruguay Alegria (75% merino, 25% nylon), Atlantico (A) and Butia (B).

Gauge:
24 sts / 30 rows = 10cm / 4 inches in stockinette stitch on 3,5mm/US 4 needles

Finished size:
about 30 cm x 200 cm / 12 inches x 80 inches

Skill level:
This pattern is suitable for knitters of every skill level. It uses standard kitting stitches like knit, purl, k2tog, k3tog, m1l, m1r, slip 1 stitch, yo, bind off knitwise. Because it is knit on the bias and its special construction the shawl makes an intriguing project even for the more experienced knitter.
