Sound Wave Advent Cowl
The Sound Waves Cowl is inspired by a graphical representation of music and includes a simple addictive slip stitch pattern.
The cowl pattern:
- Can be knitted in both fingering (4ply) and DK weight yarn.
- Includes instructions of how to make a single or a double wrap cowl in both yarn weights.
- Has tips on how to create a scarf version or a one skein version in fingering weight yarn.
- Can be made with mini skeins or one colour of yarn.
- includes some bonus patterns so if you would like to have a bit of variety you have the option to use all 4 stitch patterns.
- Knitted as a tube so you don’t need to sew in all those ends.
- You can use every scrap of leftover yarn as it is knitted in the round.
Requirements
120 or 240g (Single wrap or double wrap cowl) Fingering / 4ply weight yarn. For a single wrap cowl you can use 24 x 5g or 12 x 10g minis or scraps of random sizes amounting to 120g. You can use 24 x 10g or 12 x 20g minis or scraps of random sizes amounting to about 240g for a double wrap cowl. Instructions are given for a single wrap cowl to use just 100g of fingering weight yarn as well.
180 or 360g (Single wrap or double wrap cowl) Double Knit weight yarn. For a single wrap cowl you can use 12 x 20g minis (I used about 15g of each of my minis) or scraps of random sizes amounting to 180g. You can use 24 x 20g minis or scraps of random sizes amounting to 360g for the double wrap cowl.
One Stitch marker to mark the beginning of the round.
2 x 3.5 mm (4.5mm) circular needles for Fingering (DK) version (40cm 16 inch or 50cm 20inch cable). Scrap yarn or cable for holding your stitches.
Gauge
Using Fingering (DK) weight yarn, stocking stitch 6 (5) stitches per inch, 9 (7) rounds per inch. For both yarn weights the finished size is 21cm / 8.3 inches (22.9cm / 9 inches) wide. The single wrap cowl is 68.6cm / 27 inches long. The double wrap is 137.2cm / 54 inches long (taking into account the full length of the loop). If your gauge is looser than stated you may not have enough yarn to complete the instructed rounds. So if you know you are a loose knitter you may want to go down a needle size.
Tutorials
As the cowl includes Judy’s Magic Cast on and Kitchener stitch to close the ends of the cowl I have created some tutorials to help you with these techniques. You can find the tutorials here:
