Reynisfjara, located on the south coast, is by far one of the most famous beaches in all of Iceland. Not far from the town of Vik, you’ll find black volcanic sand, rock formations, dramatic waves, and striking basalt columns at this moody and atmospheric beach. The cowl is inspired by this very place and features ribbing that mimics the basalt columns of the Gardar cliff that overlooks the shore. Between the ribbing is a grainy stitch pattern that is reminiscent of the black sand and pebbles at the beach. It is generously sized and drapey, yet warm – perfect, in fact, for a trip to the south coast.

This is an advanced beginner level pattern. The pattern is written in standard US crochet terms. It comes in one size.
Dimensions:
16” (40 cm) wide x 18” (45 cm) tall
Here’s what you’ll need:
Hook: 4.5 mm
Yarn: A maximum of 531 yards (485 m) of worsted weight yarn. I used Winter Worsted by the Frosted Stitch (~218 yards/20 m)/100 g. A solid color for the ribbing is recommended.
