South for Winter
Once the colors of the late afternoon sky shift to muted hues and the wind begins to nip gently at bare skin, it won’t be long before geese begin their annual flight to warmer climates to wait out the coming winter months. Always on time, geese migrations are one of nature’s signals – signals of cooler days and nights to come, a season that invites turning inward toward one’s hearth and heart in reflection.
In the same way that geese fly south for winter, the textured stitches in these socks travel “south” on the leg and foot. An easily-memorized pattern, this sock pattern is meant to be a relaxing knit – perfect for some alone time or cozying up around a bonfire with a few friends. To show off the stitch pattern, I recommend knitting this pattern in a solid or tonal yarn that feels like autumn.
This pattern has been tech edited and test knit.
