This cowl is very light and lacy and therefore well suited to wear in warm southern regions. The inspiration came from the TV show Outlander thus the name Southlander. It combines the styles of Claire’s beautifully knitted capes and cowls and Jamie’s drapy kilts with the “shoulder throw”.

It has the appearance of a shawl but it never slips from you shoulders! The point of the cowl is knit bottom up and ends with 2 pleats at the shoulder and live stitches. Stitches for the cowl’s body are picked up along the left side of the point and worked across to the other shoulder. A set of pleats on the right shoulder add drape and body. The cowl continues around the neck to the left shoulder and finishes with a 3-needle bind off.
