Soy-silk Kimono
by Vicki Square
This pattern can be found on pages 42-48 of Knitting Green: Conversations and Planet-Friendly Projects, by Ann Budd with contributions from some of the knitwear industry’s leading designers.
It turns out that soybeans are so much more than a meat substitute. As a fiber, soy protein boasts the softness of silk and the warmth of cashmere. Vicki Square capitalized on the soft gentle drape in a kimono that transcends the seasons. She worked the body and sleeves in pieces from the lower edges to the shoulders, then picked up stitches around the neck and fronts to work the lace edging perpendicular
to the garment fronts. Fasten the kimono with a stick pin
or let it hang open naturally.
