This is a strange name for a pattern indeed. This was a favorite pattern at the shop I owned and SP1 stood for “Store Pattern #1.” It’s such a unique construction. I updated and tweaked the pattern a bit and the result includes a clever zipper up the back of the sweater making it easy to put on a squirming child.
