Spades mittens
“Spades” stranded colorwork mittens
These mittens can be worked using your preferred technique for knitting in the round: either using a set of 5 DPNs, using a circular needle with the Magic Loop technique, or two short circular needles. The instructions refer to working with a set of 5 DPNs.
Sizes. М – width 7.5 cm 3 in, length 17 cm 6.7 inm 2 in ribbing), L – 9 сm 3.5 in, length 18.5 сm 7.3 in, (+5 сm 2 in ribbing). The finished size of the mittens can be further adjusted through the yarn weight and needle size used.
Yarn. Any yarn with comparable yardage and fiber content can be used:
- Arroyo by Malabrigo Yarn (100% merino wool 300 m / 100 g 334 yds / 3.5 oz);
- DROPS Nord by Garnstudio (45% alpaca, 30% polyamide, 25% wool, 170 m / 50 g 186 yds / 1.75 oz).
- Wool 8/2 Effektgarn by Kauni (100% wool, 400 m / 100 g 437 yds / 3.5 oz).
Total used: color 1: 25–30 g 0.9–1.1 oz, color 2: 40–45 g 1.4–1.6 oz.
Tools:
• set of 5 DPNs in size 2.5 mm US1.5;
• stitch holder or safety pin;
Techniques and stitch patterns used:
• 1x1 ribbing (alternating “knit 1, purl 1”).
• Stockinette stitch.
• Stranded colorwork from charts.
Difficulty level: not very complicated.
