Spanglish Socks
This pattern will be available for sale from Friday 25th May
These socks are knitted from the top down and are based on a 2x2 rib pattern. I’ve added a simple 2 stitch cable to the knit columns of stitches to relieve the boredom of continuous rib! I designed these because my husband and I both like socks to really hold to our feet and so ribbed socks fit the bill beautifully. However, knitting two whole socks in relentless 2x2 rib would make me want to pull my hair out with boredom and so I added the small pattern detail to make it more interesting. Because the pattern is simple and subtle it is fully customisable for any length of foot. The rib and cable would suit solid or semi solid as well as variegated yarns. I use a slipped stitch heel for greater durability, and a rounded toe so there is no grafting. I have designed the socks in three sizes; you should be able to find a size that fits you!
The reason for the name is that I was travelling over the time that I knitted this design up, and so these socks have travelled around Britain and to Spain, to our holiday in Tenerife. The little twist in the cable reminds me of some pastries that were served at breakfast time in our hotel!
With heartfelt thanks to my wonderful tech editor Maria Saba (Decisions of a Knitter) and to my test knitters
