These cute little decorative Sparkly Stars are very quick to make, and rather addictive once you get the hang of them.

The newly updated pattern now has a full YouTube video tutorial linked within. As well as Round by Round photos, and many alternative yarn suggestions with amounts required.

This pattern is offered as separate PDFs in UK & US crochet terms.

The pattern instructions are also available inside the PDF on one printable page for those who want to print them out.

Use these Sparkly Stars for Christmas, birthdays or for home decorations. String the stars together for a garland, use as gift toppers, coasters or table decorations. You could also applique a few stars onto a cushion cover, use a number of them to decorate your child’s bedroom, or create a mobile!

These stars are crocheted in joined rounds, changing colour every round, if you desire. There are endless opportunites for play with different colour combinations, yarn weights and fibres.

The size of the finished stars depends on the yarn & crochet hook that you use. When made with a DK weight cotton yarn, small stars are 10cm across (4 in), large stars are 13cm (5 1/8 in) across from point to point.

Materials Needed:

  • Yarn in two colours : For jade/cream sample stars, I have used Morris & Sons Avalon Pima Cotton in Jade (4817) and Moonstone (4803) ; I also have made stars using Sirdar Happy Cotton DK, Louie & Lola hand dyed fingering weight yarn, Scheepjes Catona & Paintbox Cotton DK.

Really, any of your favourite yarns should work!

  • Many stars can be made from one ball of each of the two colours.

  • Crochet hook: various -use the size that will match your tension and your chosen yarn

  • Scissors

  • yarn needle
