Speckle Code Mitts
The “Speckle Code Cowl” was so much fun to knit that I had to use the technique again. The “Speckle Code Mitts” use the same code and edgings that are used in the cowl, which makes these projects a great compliment to one another, and if you’ve made the cowl, the process will be familiar. Instead of an allover stitch pattern, this design provides a “Speckle Code,” a set of individual stitch “motifs,” each worked over 1-3 stitches according to the color pattern of your yarn. You choose which motif goes with which color, then as each color appears in your yarn, you work the appropriate motif. Letting the yarn take the lead not only allows you to really admire it’s beauty, it also makes each coded row different, which results in a very engaging knit that ’s hard to put down!
-This is a quick, totally addictive, 1 skein project that must be knit with speckled yarn, the instructions will not work with solid colored yarn.
-Construction Notes: Worked even in the round to the wrist, then stitches are increased to make room for the thumb. Thumb stitches are put on hold while the hand is finished then thumb stitches are returned to the needles and worked in the round to the end.
