I’ve always loved the way nature is so beautifully reflected in a body of water - from the color display of trees in Autumn on a bright day to a perfect sunset over the ocean - the way the ripples of the water create a beautiful and subtle distortion of the image…
Specular Cowl was inspired by this natural occurrence and encompasses my appreciation for the beauty of life’s “ordinary” gifts.
This design features mosaic (slip stitch) colorwork and accents of herringbone stitch worked in the round.
This design is written for two yarn weight options, fingering weight for a more fitted and lighter weight cowl or DK weight for a more relaxed, oversized cowl or poncho fit.
Option A – Fingering weight
Sample shown is knit in Brooklyn Tweed Peerie with suggested needle sizes US 7 / 4.5 mm for the colorwork sections and US 8 / 5 mm for the herringbone collar and hem.
Option B – DK weight
Brooklyn Tweed Arbor is the suggested yarn to be worked with needle sizes US 8 / 5 mm for the colorwork and US 10.5 / 6.5 mm for the herringbone collar and hem.
Yarn Requirements A (B)
MC 300 (350) yards / 274 (320) meters
CC1 52 (60) yards / 48 (55) meters
CC2 52 (60) yards / 48 (55) meters

Suggested Needles & Notions
16” & 32” / 41 cm & 81 cm circular needles in the following sizes or sizes needed to get gauge:
- US 7 / 4.5 mm (for Option A)
- US 8 / 5 mm (for Both Options)
- US 10.5 / 6.5 mm (for Option B)
- Distinct beginning of round marker plus 2 additional markers
- Darning needle and scissors
Note: When knitting herringbone, if using an interchangeable set, you can switch out your LHN to a smaller size. This will make the herringbone stitch easier to work and will not affect your gauge.
