Speed Dating Scarf
Do you have a plethora of partials? Lots of lonely leftovers? Speed Dating Scarf is designed to get you excited about using up leftovers, partials and orphan skeins. Pull your yarns out of your stash, throw them together and have fun. You can use dk, light worsted or even fingering weight held double provided you can meet gauge.
Worked in squishy garter stitch on the bias at a loose gauge, it is beginner friendly, knits up quickly and the colour changes keep you interested. The pattern includes instructions for three versions, but you can also use it as a base to do your own thing.
Gauge: 17 st and 34 rows (17 ridges) in 10 cm/4 inches in garter st before blocking. Gauge is not crucial but differences in gauge will affect yarn usage and overall size of your scarf.
Dimensions (before blocking): 17 cm/6.75 inches wide; 149-162 cm/58.5-63.75 inches long (colour blocked version is slightly shorter than striped versions)
Yarn – Blocks and stripes version: Fifteen scrap yarns (dk; light worsted, or sock yarn held double) approx. 8-10g each; plus main colour (MC) approx. 150m-180m/165-200y (dk weight yarn held single)
Yarn - Colour blocked version: Four colours of dk/light worsted weight yarn (200m/220y per 100g/3.5oz) or sock yarn held double: approx. 90-100m/100-110y of each colour.
Yarn – Simply scrappy version: Thirteen yarns (dk; light worsted, or sock yarn held double) approx. 15-20g of colours 1-12 and 8-10g of colour 13.
Needles: 6.00mm (US 10) needles (or size required to achieve gauge).
Supplies: Yarn needle, scissors, scales for weighing small amounts of yarn.
