Every spring, one of my favorite authors publishes a new novel in her series about a family of cryptozoologists. I designed and knitted this shawl during a three-week speed-read of the previous ten books in preparation for the newest installment.

This top-down shawl puts a spin on the classic two-wedge triangle shape. Adding a third wedge allows the shawl to wrap around your shoulders without bunching up at the neck and stay in place without the help of a shawl pin. (A pin still makes a great accessory, though!) The pattern is designed to use up as much yarn as possible and includes tips for making the shawl for different yarn weights or yardage. Gauge is not crucial, but drastic changes will affect the size of the finished item.

Choose three colors: one variegated or self-striping skein and two matching or complementary single-color skeins. Shown in Rebel Purl Best of the Worsted, 218yds/100g: “Persistent”, “Rebel Purl Speckle”, and “Five By Five” colorways (pink/purple shawl) and “And Don’t It Feel Good”, “Rise Up and Kick Ass”, and “They Can’t Get Me Down” colorways (yellow/orange shawl).

Each color is worked one at a time, and the yarn is carried up the side of the project through the striping sections so there are very few ends to weave in (two per skein).
