Spicebloom invites you to embrace both creativity and craftsmanship in your knitting. This top-down raglan sweater combines seamless construction with a stunning magnolia bloom that wraps around the body, giving you the opportunity to play with color and make the design uniquely yours.
The magnolia motif uses a blend of intarsia and stranded colorwork techniques, both of which are explained in included video tutorials. Intarsia may sound intimidating, but it’s simply about adding blocks of color where you want them, and with our step-by-step guidance, you’ll be creating beautiful color transitions with confidence.
Why you’ll love it:
- A gorgeous magnolia bloom lets you play with color and texture, perfect for using yarn from your stash.
- Seamless, top-down construction with thoughtful shaping ensures a comfortable and flattering fit.
- Video tutorials guide you through intarsia and stranded colorwork techniques, making this a rewarding learning experience.
- Worsted-weight yarn creates a cozy and satisfying knit with bold, eye-catching results.
Construction Overview
Spicebloom is worked seamlessly from the top down. The neckline is shaped flat to create a comfortable and flattering fit, then the yoke is joined in the round and worked with raglan increases. The shaping uses a compound raglan method, where each size has its own tailored increase rates for balanced proportions and a great fit.
At the underarm, the body and sleeves are separated, and the magnolia bloom begins. The design combines intarsia for larger blocks of color and stranded colorwork for finer details. Our tutorials cover how to approach these techniques, ensuring you can enjoy the creative process without frustration. Once the body is complete, the sleeves are picked up and knit in the round, followed by a neat ribbed neckline for a polished look.
Yarn and Color Inspiration
Spicebloom is designed with worsted-weight yarn to highlight the magnolia motif and provide a cozy fabric. We’ve included 8 sample palettes with the pattern to help spark your creativity, but this is also the perfect project for playing with your stash!
For a classic look, try Magpie Fibers Quartet Worsted, a soft and beautifully structured yarn made with 100% superfine Merino wool. Or mix and match different yarns to create a truly one-of-a-kind bloom. You can even experiment with holding DK yarn with mohair for added texture and dimension.

Sizing & Fit
Spicebloom is designed for 2–6” (5–15 cm) of positive ease, creating a relaxed and comfortable fit. This means the finished sweater should measure 2–6” larger than your actual bust circumference.
To choose your size, measure your full bust and add 2–6” to that measurement, depending on how loose or fitted you’d like your sweater to be. For example, if your bust measures 34”, you would knit size 38” for 4” of ease.
