Spidey
Here’s a spooky spider for a knitted Halloween decoration. Spidey’s bendy legs are made by inserting pipe cleaners (a.k.a. chenille stems) inside each leg, but you can make your spider without these so they have dangly legs instead if you are concerned about safety.
Designed by Amanda Berry @fluffandfuzz, the spider is knitted in acrylic DK yarns. The body is knitted on single pointed needles (not in the round), and the pipe cleaner legs are covered with i-cord tubes which are knitted on two DPNs.
NEEDLES
A pair of each of 3.5mm single pointed knitting needles and DPNs (US 4).
RECOMMENDED YARN
Sirdar Hayfield Bonus DK; double knitting/light worsted weight; 100% acrylic; less than a 50g skein in Black.
NOTIONS
Tapestry needle, a handful of toy filling, pipe cleaners/chenille stems, buttons and yellow felt fabric for eyes, and White DK yarn to embroider the mouth.
SIZES
One size only - Spidey is 12cm tall x 13cm wide when standing with the legs bent as pictured.
TECHNIQUES
For confident beginners and above, other techniques used include casting on and off, knits, purls, increases and decreases, and seaming to finish.
