When I have a badge that clips instead of having a lanyard, I never really know where to clip that doesn’t look awkward. What a dilemma! But don’t worry, here’s an easy solution to that annoying issue.

And what a great way to make a unique statement at work with this nifty knitted lanyard! Select one that is a bit more understated and blends in to later surprise people, or chose a color that just pops up and cheerily says “hello!”

These lanyards have a safety breakaway fuse just in case your workplaces require them, and a lobster clasp to hold on to your badge. You can either thread the lobster clasp through the badge’s punch hole - or, you may clip the badge to the ring that the lobster clasp is on. It is also sturdy enough to hold keys if you like to load up your lanyard with everything that you might need. Of course, extra weight will stretch the knitted cord out a bit (an inch or so) - but they are soft enough that they are still comfortable.

(Note - all bets are off if you decide to hang a small hippopotamus from your lanyard. They’re a bit heavy, and I don’t think a hippo would like a lobster clasp grabbing its nose, instant annoyed hippo. Good thing you’ve got that handy safety breakaway fuse for your fast getaway!)

The construction a simple i-cord with the addition of a couple of items that you can find at your local craft store, or on line. (split ring and breakaway fuse).

Any yarn from fingering weight to aran may be used with the appropriate needle for that particular weight. This is perfect to use up your leftover scraps! This pattern produces a lanyard 30” in diameter, but may be made shorter or longer depending on your own taste.

Materials:
-20-30 yards of the yarn of your choice
-double pointed needles, straight needles or round needles to fit your chosen yarn
-tapestry needle
-split ring (key ring)
-breakaway fuse (optional)

Gauge: not vital, but should match your yarn and you should be happy with the degree of floppiness of the i-cord
