This pattern can be made using any yarn and hook, only you will need to tailor the pattern to fit. You can do this by taking your yarn and whatever size hook you have (I would suggest keeping your hook between 4.00 and 5.50 mm) and begin by making your row of chains (the pattern calls for 85 ch), then wrap this string of chains around your head to gauge whether or not it is a good fit, adjusting the number of chains to achieve the right fit. The Spike Stitch in this pattern doesn’t require a fixed amount of beginning chains, therefore, your beginning chains can be of any number.

I suggest using Caron Simply Soft yarn because it is what I used and made the pattern according to this, but also because it is Simply Soft ;).
