Spike Stitch Slouch
A crocheted hat with the elastic, stretchy fit of knit!
Once you make this hat, you’ll want to experiment with any stitch combinations you want. You may even want to make other garments using the simple, row by row technique, such as headbands, legwarmers, and arm warmers. Making garments just got so much easier, and the fit will always be comfy and forgiving.
While the stitch counts given are for the adult sized hat, I’ve included instructions on how to adjust the size to any measurements.
To use up your extra yarn, I’ve also included instructions for a matching coffee sleeve!
I love this stitch for hand dyed yarn especially, and this hat can easily be made with only 100 grams of your favorite DK yarn. I had plenty left over to make a matching coffee sleeve. The long spike stitches work well to break up unintentional pooling, and the texture compliments bold colorways without becoming visually cluttered. Varigated, speckled, and tonal hand dyed yarns would all work well for this pattern.
Additional supplies needed are a size I hook and a good yarn needle.
Still not sure what to make with that extra special 100 grams of yarn? Check out my store for more one-skein ideas!
