The Spinnaker Cowl was created to be a set with the Spinnaker Beanie pattern. Faux cables created by right twisted stitches give the look of little waves. The town of White Bear Lake, MN where I live is known for sailing races, so the Spinnaker Cowl name is a nod to the iconic sailboats on White Bear Lake.

This pattern is written for bulky and super bulky yarn: be sure to pick the correct instructions for the yarn weight you’re using. A handy resource for yarn substitutions is yarnsub.com.

The Spinnaker Cowl is knit in the round, from the bottom up. First you will knit ribbing on the bottom, work a 4-round stitch repeat for the body, knit ribbing at the top, and then bind off.

This pattern is designed to fit snugly under a zipped up coat. If you’d like a looser, more drapey cowl, increase the number of stitches cast on in multiples of 4 stitches. If you cast on additional stitches, keep in mind this will change the yardage needed for the pattern. Blocking the finished cowl is highly recommended, stretch body to desired size and lay flat to dry - it’ll make the stitches pop!

US15/10mm needles

Bulky: 100 yards of Baah Yarn Sequoia (or similar)
US10.5/6.5mm
