Spiral Horns & Curlicues
Quick and simple Spiral Horn that can be added to a headband or sewn to your crocheted or knitted project.
The super lightweight Spiral Horn is freestanding without the need for support or padding.
Four sizes of Spiral Horn are included in the pattern:
Large, Medium, Tiny and Teeny Tiny, all of which can be adjusted further by using different gauges of yarn and hook.
Also included in the pattern is a fun, quick and simple way of making Ringlet Curlicues.
The pattern is designed, written and tested to be ‘as you like it’.
Regarding yarns and hooks sizes, anything goes, from the finest to the bulkiest, therefore, choose the yarn to suit the size and weight of your project and use the hook that corresponds with your chosen yarn.
Two ends of double knit or aran weight yarn, held together, works well and has the added advantage of using one end of yarn to make matching curlicues.
The largest Spiral Horn, pictured in my palm, is made from Lion Brand thick and quick wool ease using a 9mm hook and weighs in at 17g at 6” (15cm ) tall. The smaller Spiral Horn was made using the same size pattern with one end of double knit yarn and a 4.5mm hook. It weighs in at 5g and is 2 1/2” (6cm) tall.
As you can see, the thirteen horns in the scales weigh in at just 75g. The teeny tiniest is in the centre, measuring just 1” (2.5cm), made from 4ply silver thread using a 2mm hook.
