This charming baby hat features a simple self-rolling stockinette edge and an easy-to-work lace that forms a striking spiral design as you repeat the 3-round pattern. One size will fit most babies from birth to about 6 months.

One 50 g. skein will make this hat and a matching pair of mini-mukluks (separate pattern available in my store).

Note: This pattern originally listed Wendy Peter Pan Double Knit and Rowan Cashsoft 4 Ply, but they are no longer available in the US. The Berroco Comfort DK makes a fine substitute.

You can also use any fingering or sport-weight yarn that gives the right gauge and is suitable for a baby hat. The gauge on the original hat is 20 sts over 4 inches in stockinette, but a gauge of between 20 – 22 sts over 4 inches would be acceptable. Just be aware that a tighter gauge will make a slightly smaller hat.
