Spiral of Theodorus
Based on a mathematical principle, the Spiral of Theodorus is a spiral shawl made up of contiguous triangles, each knit one at a time. The previous triangle’s hypotenuse forms the leg of the next triangle. This pattern can allow for any size from a half circle to more then a full circle. The pattern is rated moderate as beginners may have some difficulty with some of the techniques used.
There is no seaming required in construction. All calculations have been done but must be filled into the pattern from a table for each triangle.
Materials:
• Lace weight yarn, 440 - 1000 yards (depending on number of triangles)
• Markers
• U.S. Size 6 (4.0 mm) circular needle, 16” or larger
• Blocking pins or wires
Finished Size:
• 56-60” in diameter (with 11 triangles)
• Gauge is 14 rows x 9 sts of stockinette in a 2” square after blocking (not critical)
