Spiral Rib Baby Hat
A wonderfully stretchy baby hat that will expand or contract to fit many size heads. The distinctive spiral pattern is simple to knit and is suitable for either boys or girls. The hat looks good in solid colors or self-striping yarns.
In addition to standard fingering-weight yarn knit at 24 sts to 4 inches, you can also use slightly lighter-weight fingering yarns with a gauge of 26 sts to 4 inches. Stitch counts are given for both weights, making this a very adaptable pattern.
You can also use any sport-weight yarn that will knit up at gauge -- the Berroco Comfort DK meets that requirement.
Note: This pattern originally listed Rowan Pure Wool 4 Ply, Rowan Cashsoft 4 Ply, and Handwerks So-Soft yarn as options, but they are no longer available.
There’s an optional crocheted flower (instructions provided) that can be used to embellish the turned-up cuff, or you may choose to use some other decorative element such as a pompom or felted flower.
