Splendid Snail
This pattern has you whipping up a whimsical
2-D-ish snail stuffie in no time. The two main pieces of the project are knitted flat, however, the pattern is adaptable for working in the round. The skill requirements for completing the project include basic increases / decreases, as well as the ability to work short rows. Using size US7 /4.5mm needles and bulky weight yarn produces a snail measuring 5” by 4”.
MATERIALS:
10g Bulky Weight Yarn Shell Color
7g Bulky Weight Yarn Body Color
Stuffing (shredded yarn or fiberfill)
Cotton Lace crochet or embroidery thread (black)
Light-weight Thread for sewing
GAUGE:
Different size needles and yarn can be substituted. Gauge is not important so long as the needles are somewhat smaller than specified for the weight of the selected yarn. This allows for a tighter knit and prevents stuffing from
showing through the work. If you opt to use worsted weight yarn, I suggest US 4 - US 6 needle sizes, depending on the particular weight of your thread. If your fabric knits up a little loose, consider stuffing with similar colored yarn, pre-cut into small segments.
SKILLS:
Basic knitting technique (stockinette stitch, k2tog/p2tog decreases, and short rows) is a requirement for completion of the project.
Basic sewing technique, including whip stitch, mattress stitch, chain stitch. Very basic embroidery for facial features.
