Fossils of the genus Stegosaurus date to the Late Jurassic period between 155 and 150 million years ago, in the western United States and Portugal.

This Stegosaurus is knitted mostly flat and the pieces joined with 3 needle bind off and Kitchener stitch.
The legs are knitted in the round and sewn onto the body.
Other techniques needed include German Short Rows as well as wrap & turn, lots of picking up stitches, and some knitting in the round on small numbers of stitches.
This is an intermediate level pattern.

Main Color (MC) for the body: 140 yds (128 m) sport or light DK weight yarn.
Contrast Color (CC) for the plates and spikes: 30 yds (26 m) sport or light DK weight yarn.
Use any yarn, but yarn that includes at least 50% wool will hold the shape better.
The finished size, when knitted with DK weight yarn, is about 16” (41 cm) long.
You may use any weight yarn. If you use a lighter weight yarn the final size will be smaller and you will need less yarn.

Gauge is not important at all, as long as you use a needle size to give a tight weave, so that the stuffing does not show through. Gauge on the sample is 24 sts and 32 rows / 4” (10 cm) over unblocked stockinette.
