I was going to make a plain beret, really. I wanted a simple, quick, not too involved project but somehow, this sparkling yarn wanted to be more than plain…

The lace pattern that spontaneously emerged is still relatively simple, and the results are, in all honesty I suppose, what I originally imagined on a dreary winter’s day when I first was seduced by the sequins! The Polaris yarn was purchased at my former LYS, Wolseley Wardrobe in Winnipeg and the colour is Cloud Cover, 61003

Worked in the round, this beret fits most sizes, it is somewhat slouchy, and oh so pretty. The wool blend offers warmth, without being too heavy. Perfect for spring, early fall, or just for fun.

One 50g (175m/191yd) ball of fingering weight yarn is all it takes! It would work equally well in a similar weight yarn, even one without sequins. I have actually made it up in non-embellished teal merino and it is equally pretty.

This hat is knit in the round from the band to the crown. The Lace is quite straightforward, and the pattern is written out line by line but a chart is also provided.
