TIPS FOR WORKING TAPESTRY CROCHET
• Make sure you carry the color you are working along the top of the work and crochet over it. This will keep you from having “floats” on the back of your work. Keep in mind, though, that this does change the texture of the fabric. I find that my tapestry crochet pieces are stiffer than if I bring the yarn along behind the work.
• Make sure you are changing colors in the middle of a stitch. You need to work the stitch (usually single crochet) to the last 2 loops on the hook and draw through the last 2 loops with the color needed for the next stitch. If you don’t do this, your color work will look “off”.
• Keep your yarns separated, especially if working with more than 2 colors. This way they won’t get tangled up. If I’m working with 2 colors, I keep one on the left and one on the right and always make sure they aren’t getting twisted up. Working with more colors? Just give each one its own spot.
