I have been knitting socks for almost two decades and had never knit shorty socks for myself until last year. Once I gave them a whirl I loved them! I could finally continue wearing hand knit socks year ‘round! I was on a mission to create a sock with a simple cuff with an extra tab on the back of the socks to help with heel coverage to prevent blisters and also keep the socks from falling down into my shoes.
I love how simple, yet beautiful, the stitch pattern on the top of the foot is and how quick it is to memorize and work with! It has incredible stretch making it perfect for snug socks that conform to your feet.
The pattern is written for magic loop knitting in mind, but can easily be converted to use 2 16” circulars, 5 dpns, or a 9” cable needle so you can knit in whatever method you are most comfortable with; there is a quick start reference at the beginning of the pattern for the different methods to get you started.
This pattern is written for two adult sizes: adult small/7.5-8” circumference and adult large/9”-9.5” circumference measured at the ball of the foot. If there is only one value in the instruction it applies to both sizes. I used a 100g skein and a coordinating 20g mini and used only 40g total for an adult size 7! I am confident you could make a pair of socks to fit most foot sizes with a 50g skein and a coordinating 20g mini!
