Spray Lake Socks
When I first laid eyes on the Perfect Storm colourway by Essence of Autumn, I was immediately reminded of the blue-green waters of the Spray Lake reservoir in Kananaskis, Alberta. The peaks and valleys of the chevron pattern mimic those of the Rocky Mountains. I wanted this pattern to play homage to the beautiful province I call home. This pattern is written from the cuff down with a unique heel flap and gusset that doesn’t break the lace pattern.
The pattern can be easily adapted into a mid-calf, or shortie sock by adjusting the number of pattern repeats you do. While the pattern calls for one skein of sock yarn, your yardage will vary based on the length or leg and foot you choose to do. One skein should be more than sufficient for all sizes.
This pattern was featured in the May 2019 Sock Crush Box.
July 2019 Update: Added a chart and a second PDF using the Woolfield template - both patterns are the same, feel free to use whichever one works best for you.

Like any of my patterns, you can use any sock yarn that fits your style and budget! Need help finding a suitable yarn? Check out my Tips and Tricks for yarn substitution!
This pattern contains three sizes. Finished socks will fit most teen - adult feet.
If you’re interested in increasing the width of the calf, I have a few suggestions:
- Use a stretchy cast on like a Twisted German CO
- Instead of knitting in stockinette stitch between the instep and mini lace panel down the back, you could continue in the same ribbed pattern from the cuff, breaking the ribbing to do the lace, then continuing in your rib pattern until you reach the instep.
Please message me if I can help with your modifications.
