Spring Chick Shelfie
The Spring Chick Shelfie is the perfect, quick little project to add to your Spring and/or Easter decor. Put your chick(s) on a shelf, give a bookcase a touch of Spring, sit it on a side table, etc. or make them as an Easter basket surprise for your special little love(s)—for whatever reason you make it, you’ll love your happy little chick!
The Spring Chick Shelfie works up quickly. It is crocheted in a continuous spiral. The shell, body, neck & head are one piece. The wings, beak and feet (if choosing not to make hanging legs) are sewn on.
Pattern is written is US terms.
LEVEL: Beginner-Friendly. Must be familiar with basic Amigurumi techniques
SIZE: Using cotton yarn & a C/2.75mm hook, the chick is 7.5-8” tall with a 12” circumference.
TECHNIQUES:
magic circle, crocheting in a continuous round, increasing & decreasing and have very basic sewing skills to complete this pattern. A detailed photo tutorial for attaching the hanging legs to the chick is included in the pattern.
MATERIALS:
C/2.75 mm crochet hook
Yarn: #4 worsted weight (Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton & Hobby Lobby I Love This Cotton were used)
Yellow Yarn: approx 35 - 46g/1.2 - 1.6 oz
Orange Yarn: approx 11g/.3 oz
Off-White/White Yarn: approx 25g
Scissors
2 Stitch Markers
Tapestry Needle
2 - 10mm Safety Eyes
Stuffing (Poly-Fil)
Small Piece of Cardboard - so chick will sit (optional)
Pencil/Pen - to draw/trace cardboard circle (optional)
Glue (optional if making Amigurumi)
1” Wooden Spools - for hanging legs
½” Wooden Beads - for hanging legs
Craft Paint & Paintbrush - to paint wooden beads and/or spools (optional)
OPTIONAL MATERIALS:
D/3.25 mm crochet hook - for Bonnet, Scally(Skull) Cap & Bow Tie only
18g/0.7 oz of yarn for Bonnet
16g/0.5 oz of yarn for Scally Cap
3g/0.1 oz of yarn for Bow Tie
Small amount of yellow eyelash yarn - for chick “fuzz”
Small amount of Black &/or White Embroidery Thread - for eye enhancement
