I really like this one; the unorthodox combination of brioche rib and standard increases, and the way this effects the rate of increase, gives the kerchief a unique shape that’s pretty satisfying. I did not block mine to emphasize the curve shape or erase it, because I wanted to show how it looks without trying to change it much in either direction, but you certainly could.

Brioche Toast is another small spring kerchief for the Spring Feverish 2025 set—a nice combination of textures and techniques, with easy garter stitch and a section of brioche rib.

This design combines bias- and top-down triangle shawl knitting for additional interest—changing directions like this shows off a self-striping or gradient yarn to good effect, and should look nice in multicolored handspun.

You only need yarn, your preferred circular needle for working flat, and stitch markers to make this kerchief.

Materials:

  • About 225-250 yds of sportweight yarn; sample shown in Patons Kroy Socks FX in Cascade Colors
  • 1 24”circular needle in US4-5/3.5-3.75mm, or size needed for gauge, used to work flat.
  • Removable stitch marker
  • Tapestry needle

Gauge:
Gauge is 22 sts and 44 rows over 4”/10cm of garter stitch, lightly blocked and worked flat.
