Spring Green Handwarmers
These lovely handwarmers are knitted from bottom up. They are pretty basic and easy to knit. The pattern is written for an “advanced beginner”, a knitter who can cast on and bind off stitches, knit in round, and do k2tog and SSK decreases.
If you have mastered basic knitting techniques, and don’t yet have much experience with fingerless mitts - this pattern is for you.
The pattern produces one pair of women’s size M mittens. The size is easily changed by using a different yarn weight / needles size, or casting fewer/more stitches. Sample mittens use sport-weight yarn, but you can use any yarn weight /needle combination. You only need half a skein for these mitts.
Because of the garter stitch borders on the bottom of the mitts and on the top, i made separate instructions for the right and the left mitt, this way the jog in the garter stitch is on the palm.
Also, when your mitts are just off the needles, it will look like the garter stitch part is more “compressed” than the stockinette. Don’t worry, once you start wearing them, the mitts will fit the shape of your hands.
The Russian version of this pattern is available for free at the Darievna.ru Russian handmade forum, basically, what I charge for here is the English translation. We have just finished a KAL, so if you can read Russian, feel free to download the free pattern from the link above. You will also find some step-by-step photos by me and my fellow KAL knitters there.
Enjoy and happy knitting!
