Spring Has Hatched Half-Pi Shawl
-
This half-pi shawl features interesting cross-cross/hatch stitches, eyelet increases, and a squishy garter border.
-
Gauge is not important for this pattern.
-
Finished size of sample: 72” wide by 38” deep at center (blocked)
-
This shawl is worked top–down with a half-pi construction.
-
After working the setup rows, the stitch count for the working stitches (between edge stitch markers) doubles approximately with each doubling of the row count.
-
Sample was created with DK-weight yarn (245 yards per 100g hank).
-
Total yarn requirement: ~1010 yards DK weight – Color A: Wildflower Patch by Bad Sheep Yarn (100g hank—used most of hank) – Color B: Haiku by Bad Sheep Yarn (100g hank—used all but a few yards) – Color C: Sundog by Bad Sheep Yarn (100g hank—used 70g) – Color D: Echo by Bad Sheep Yarn (100g hank—used 66g) – Color E: Velvet by Bad Sheep Yarn (100g hank—used 76g)
-
When selecting yarn, choose a harmonious palette that isn’t too matchy-matchy and provides a good contrast between stitch sections. The color you select for the HATCHWORK stitch sections should be a variegated colorway with a lot of color variation.
-
While the sample was created with DK-weight yarn, this piece would be lovely with a worsted, sport, or fingering-weight yarn as well. Just adjust needle size accordingly for a resulting fabric that isn’t too tight/rigid. Yarn amounts will vary for other weights.

Use as many or as few colors as you wish and alternate to your liking.
