After a Taos winter we can’t wait for the colors of spring flowers to appear in the landscape against our brilliant blue skies, especially the pinks and lavenders of the fruit trees and lilacs.

This crescent-shaped shawl celebrates the spirit of spring color, taking 5 colors and two stitch patterns then mixing them up to make a beautiful whole. It can be modified for a different number of colors. It can be difficult to visualize how 5 different colors mix in this pattern, so a template is included to try variations before knitting - cut 2” lengths of each color and lay them out on the template as indicated.

Instructions for two sizes are included.

Finished size, after blocking
Small: Wingspan 75” and 13” deep at middle back
Large: Wingspan 96” and 19” deep at middle back

Gauge: in garter stitch about 19 st per 4.” Exact gauge is not important EXCEPT for yardages - you risk running out of colors C and/or D if you go up a needle size.

Yarn:
Small: Five 100-yards skeins of fingering weight yarn such as Frabjous Fibers Queen of Hearts mini-skein set (510 yards total) – shown in photo at right in Color Morph #31 Fuchsia to Turquoise.
Large: Five 200-yard skeins of fingering weight yarn such as Auxanometer Gradients (Theodora’s Pearls).

Needles: 32” (small) or 40” (large) circular in size 5 or 6 or size to obtain gauge. I used #6 for the wool blend and #5 for the bamboo and got the same gauge. I knit loosely so you may need to go down a needle size.
