Spring into Summer Shawl
The Spring Into Summer Shawl is a pattern I’d been thinking about for over a year before I finally cast it on and started working on it … its a mostly garter based shawl (the only purling required is in the lace section) with a fun texture stitch to work in your contrast colours and a simple yet effective lace pattern to really show off your neutral main colour.
Its the perfect Spring/Summer time shawl which is where the inspiration for the name came from … its large enough to wrap it around your neck a couple times on a particularly chilly spring day … yet light enough to drape over your shoulders when you only need a bit of coverage on a cool summers night.
I would suggest that this pattern is perfect for someone who is an Advanced/Adventurous Beginner - Intermediate level of knitter … although if you have confidence in following a pattern there is no reason why a beginner couldn’t follow this design as well.
What you will need:
• Yarn:
- 100g Fingering Yarn in a solid/ tonal colourway - Yarn used in sample
• Cascade Heritage Sock Yarn, in Colourway 5681 (400m/100g MAIN COLOUR
- 1 Mini skein gradient set 5x20g minis
•Wonderland Yarns, Fuchsia to Turquoise shadow Colour Morph 5 pack mini skein set – 5 x 1oz (28g) minis / 128yards - (640yards/5oz – 585m/142g) CONTRAST COLOURS A-E.
(Alternatively you can use a 10x10g mini skein set or assemble a few coordinating leftover yarns to use instead – this is a great opportunity to stash bust those larger scraps! – see notes further in the pattern on ways to adapt and customize this pattern)
• Needles – 3.75mm (US 5) needles on long cable.
• Notions – Removable stitch marker to mark right side of work when first starting.
• Gauge – Approx 18 sts/ 4 inches after blocking in Garter (although gauge is really not too important with this shawl as long as you are liking the fabric you are getting).
Finished Size of Shawl – 250cm (98 inches) on the longest edge & 50cm (20 inches) at the deepest point.
Instructions are given on how to knit the shawl exactly as shown in the pattern photos however this pattern is completely adaptable and can be customised in many number of ways by mixing up how you knit each section and how many minis you want to use. Extensive notes are provided in the pattern to explain how you can do this and the different options for customisation.
