I named this Shawlette “Spring on my Mind” because as I sit in my warm, cozy house and look out at the white snow still on the ground, I can appreciate its beauty and the frozen stillness that it portrays. But I also long for the vibrant colors that start to burst forth from that frozen wonderland in the early spring. The bright oranges and pretty purples combined with the floral lace and twining mock cable patterns made me think of those early and welcomed signs that spring is near. I used a cotton yarn for this shawl so that it can be worn comfortably as the temperatures begin to rise and the smaller shawlette size is perfect for draping gracefully over your shoulders when there is still a bit of chill in the breeze.
This piece is knit from the middle of the top edge, making increases on either side of the middle stitch as well as on either edge. Every other row increases the stitch count by four, ending up with a triangular shape that can be wrapped around your neck as a scarf or adorn your shoulders and held together in front with a lovely pin.
