As a lover of both the outdoors and gardening, I spend quite a few hours outside in the spring and fall, pruning plants or doing other farm work. During these times I find fingerless mitts to be the perfect accessory, not too hot and not too cold. With these seasons in mind, I have designed the Spring Rainstorm Fingerless Mitts.

Slip stitches, combined with a simple knit/purl repeat give this mitt texture and movement, while still keeping it simple enough for those who have never used two colors in a project before. Although the pattern is written for two strands of fingering weight yarn held double, the gauge can also be achieved by using a single strand of DK weight yarn. Plus, as an added bonus, the quantity of yarn needed is quite small, offering a great opportunity to use up scraps or leftovers.

The pattern comes in three sizes (S, M, L) and fits hands that are 6, 7, or 8 inches in circumference.

Approximate yarn requirements for each size are as follows:

  • Small - 35 grams (140 yards) of fingering weight in main color/25 grams (90 yards) of fingering weight in contrast color.
  • Medium - 40 grams (170 yards) of fingering weight in main color/30 grams (125 yards) of fingering weight in contrast color.
  • Large - 45 grams (180 yards) of fingering weight in main color/40 grams (170 yards) of fingering weight in contrast color
