Spring Shower Socks
I hadn’t planned on designing socks for this issue; but when one of our designers had a family emergency, I had her send the yarn to me. Cascade had sent two skeins in the same color and dye lot at our request; and when I started the socks I had planned on crew length, but the yarn changed my mind. Heritage Wave has very long color repeat; and when I was halfway through sock one, I realized I needed to start again. If I had knit the second sock with that first skein, the socks would have had no colors in common. So I decided the best way to show off the properties of this yarn was to make the socks thigh high. Each sock was knit with one skein and there was almost no yarn left. The socks demonstrate the range of colors quite well.
The name of this color is Seattle, and that inspired me to select a stitch pattern that looks like little umbrellas. When I changed to making thigh-high socks, I added a stockinette stitch at each side of the stitch pattern that I could use to make gussets for shaping the calves.
