Winter seems to last a long time here in the Northwest with its grey skies. As we see the sun start peeking out in Spring, we get anxious for warmer weather, sunshine, that draws forth the leaves and flowers we have so missed. These quick little knit-in-the-round fingerless mitts make a perfect small project with enough interest to create an enjoyable knit, perfect for the variable Spring weather.

They are one size, but you can make them larger or smaller with your choice of yarn and needles.

Yarn - Pick a yarn that will give you good stitch definition in fingering or light sport weight (400yd/100g) and a small amount of contrast yarn in the same weight. You will need approximately 139m/152yd or 38 grams for fingering/sport weight.

Beads - You will need 16 beads size 6. (You will want a crochet hook for adding beads.)

Needles - US 2 (2.75 mm) to 3 (3.25 mm), depending on your knitting gauge, or if you want a larger or smaller gauge. You will also want some smaller needles (one size down) to do the Vikkel Braid.

Gauge - Blocked (for the fingering): 29 stitches and 38 rows = 10 cm/4 inches in Stockinette knit in-the-round.

Knitting Elements
This pattern uses a Double Chain Cast-On and Cast-Off, but you may choose a different method if you want. If you use the Double Chain Cast-On I recommend doing it with a knitting needle and crochet hook.

It also features Vikkel Braid in-the-Round. You may substitute 2 rounds in purl if you don’t want to do the Vikkel Braid.

The pattern also uses twisted knit stitches (where the stitch is knit through the back loop of the stitch). This gives the stitches a certain look and draws the stitches in a little tighter. If you would rather just do a k1,p1 rib, you may. Your finished mitts will look just a little different.
