Springtime in the South
This is based on a patented modular knitting technique developed by Virginia Woods Bellamy in the 1930s and 1940s. She developed a correspondent course, teaching her technique to knitters around the world. She patented her hand knitting method in 1948, and compiled her correspondence course material into a book, “Number Knitting: The New All-Way Stretch Method”, published in 1952. It was her only knitting book, and it only had a single printing. Consequently, it fell into oblivion. I am working to republish the book for modern day knitters. We have a Ravelry group dedicated to this book.
This diamond design is one of several different flat repeating square designs outlined in the book. I explored that here.
This design uses three shapes:
- Right triangles
- Divided Squares
- Divided Triangles
This is a good pattern for an intermediate to advanced knitter.
