Sprocket Hat
The Sprocket Hat is an engaging way to combine yarns to knit a colourful stripey hat. Slipped stitches create the sprocket “teeth” colourwork, and are a fun and easy way to change colours while adding some interesting detail to the pattern. This is the perfect pattern for using with a five colour mini skein set, or to scrap bust those tiny bits of beautiful leftover yarns. Knit in the round from the brim to the crown and topped with a floofy pom pom, this fun hat will fly off your needles in no time. Available in sizes for the whole family.
Needles & Notions
US1 / 2.5 mm and US3 / 3.25 mm circular knitting needles in the appropriate cable length for your size and/or double pointed knitting needles, or size to obtain gauge, darning needle, pom pom (optional).
Yarn & Yardage
This pattern uses five 20 gram fingering weight mini skeins, which will be enough yarn to knit any size. Don’t feel limited by only mini skeins though, as this is a perfect scrap busting project. Each stripe on the sock uses approximately 5 grams of fingering weight yarn depending on size, with the brim and crown colours using slightly more.
These are the yarns I used for my hats, beginning with the colour on the brim and moving up:
