This helmet fits shallow at the top of the head and short at the back of the head for airiness, as it is intended for early spring / fall weather. The button straps are closed under the chin.

This pattern will have you make a panel for the top of the head first, and then pick up stitches on the sides to make the part for around the head. All the shaping will be done on the purl side, but it is up to you to decide whichever side as the right side. Then, the scallop edging around the face will be added with crochet chains.

The yarns to be used are two strands of fingering weight yarn (210m or 230yds total) and one strand of dk weight mohair yarn for the fuzziness (200m or 218yds). Alternatively, one strand of worsted or dk weight yarn and a strand of dk weight mohair could work (in that case, you will also need a little bit of fingering weight for the edging around the face). I recommend the yarn on the coarser side rather than super soft for this pattern to give it more structure.

The needles used were 3.5mm 24” circular needles for the body (any length longer than 16” works, but 24” is most comfortable) and double pointed needles, which are 2 sizes down from what was used for the body, for the straps. Additionally, a 2.35mm crochet hook for around the face trim.
My hand is on the loose side. Please make a swatch for the body first with needle size close to 3.5mm and adjust the size depending on your hands tension.
