This blanket features color-changing ridges that travel up the front of the blanket. The “trick” is that the adjacent ridges change colors at a different pace. The body of the blanket is made up of a simple 2 x 1 rib, but a modified version of the Butterfly Stitch is used to alter the color changes on the ridges, so the colors in the even ridges don’t show up in the odd ridges, and vice versa.

Pattern includes instructions for a 6-color blanket, but also includes detailed suggestions for choosing colors and modifying the number of colors the pattern uses and modifying the way the colors are arranged.

Gauge:
20 sts x 24 rows (plus a cast on and bind off row) in pattern = 3.5” x 3.5”

Yarn weight:
The pattern, which was designed for Cascade 200 Superwash, is listed as calling for DK weight. Yarn weight classifications can get a little fuzzy, in my experience, and after years of working with Cascade 220 Superwash, I’ve found that it behaves more like a DK-to-light-worsted weight yarn than a true worsted weight. Since there is no “light worsted” classification, I went with DK, but the pattern, which is knitted on size 8 needles, could work for either DK or worsted weight (or any other weight you like, with the appropriate needles).

Note: the main part of the pattern is knitted, but the optional edging is crochet

My finished blanket was approximately 32” x 37” before the crochet edging was added.
