These were designed for a friend, in memory of a loved one who went by the nickame Squid. My friend told me to go ahead and share!

No one will be offended if you use this as a Kraken design; from what I’ve heard Squid would have been amused by that if he was still here. (See my example of a red and black one in the pattern photos!)

Knit on size 3 needles, this pattern fits most women. Size can be adjusted for larger women or not-too large men’s hands by going up to a size 4 or 5. For larger men’s, you might want to use slightly thicker yarn as well.

If you’re printing this out, there’s a wide pattern chart that’s easier to read on the Landscape format file. However Ravelry insists on turning the pages sideways, and I realize this may be an issue for reading it on some devices, so I provided a right-side-up (Portrait format) file as well. The versions are otherwise the same.

This pattern is free to use, but please consider making a donation to 7 Rivers LGBTQ Connection or another resource for LGBT and trans youth, in memory of Squid. If you’re shopping for yarn rather than using your stash, please consider ordering from my local yarn shop (Blue Heron Knittery in Decorah IA).

I don’t mind if you knit items to sell using this pattern, or modify it and publish your own version. Have fun!
